See the ** at the beginning for the ones that impressed me the most.
- Plain square coaster - Does anyone even need a pattern for this?
- **Candy Corn Coaster - Adorable in yellow, white and orange, it would jazz up your home for Halloween! I could see adapting the general pattern for different shapes (maybe an apple?)
- Lion Brand Patriotic Coasters and Placemats - Bring these out for the 4th of July! You need to join the website to access the patterns.
- Checkerblock kitchen set - Use some Insartia to make a little checkerblock coaster. Matching cozy patterns are included in the PDF.
- **Mod coasters - These are shaped like little stars made up of five "triangles" (a similar coaster theme is repeated on many sites below)
- Circular felted coasters and cozies - Knitting from the center out, you can make a starburst pattern by mixing colors out slowly. This would be fun to modify!
- **Drip Mug Rug with Fringe - This is not your standard square. It looks perfect for using up your left over sock yarn, with an diagonal created by double decreases.
- Basketweave and Square and in a square coaster - Two patterns here!
- Mitered coaster set - These would knit up the same as the Drip Mug pattern above, but the presentation of the previous pattern is nicer.
- Berroco Coasters - Hexagonal felted coasters, similar to the mod coasters. Does not require a login
- Little Knit of this and that - These coasters have different K/P charts in the center.
- Roman stitch Kitchen Set - There are directions for towels, dishcloths, placemats and coasters.
- Knit Picks Come in from the Cold Coster and Cozy Set - This free pattern has a two color snowflake pattern. We're finding something for almost every season here!
- Christmas Tree Mug rug - Keeping in tune with the holiday theme, these are subtle, not as joyful as the candy corns!
- Mug Rug - No picture. It seems simple enough, with instructions to turn it into a sachet.
- Calla Coasters - Knitted coaster top, fabric bottom.
- Six Pointed Star Christmas Ornament - This star pattern could be adapted to a coaster by leaving out the loop!
- Short Row Pepperment Pattern - Darling, pinwheeles of color, spice up your living room!
- Felted Coasters - Yet another hexagonal knit coaster.
- **Petal Dishcloth - The most intricate of short row patterns, with a small enough gauge you can make this dishcloth coaster size.
- Teeny-Weeny garter stitch coaster pattern - With color switches you get a nice star effect.
- Eyelet edged coasters - Simple garter stitch with yarn overs near the edges.
- Three fun coasters - You will need to create a log-in to see more than pictures of these patten. They download as PDF files.
- St Patrick's day cloths - This blog has many different cloths for every season you can think of. The St Patrick's cloths are free, some of the others may have a fee attached. It is good for some inspirations, though.
- This isn't knit, but the braided mug rug is darling!
- Planter covers - cover a square box with a bunch of swatches (or coasters, really) so spice up your potters.
- Woven Zakka Napkins - These are too cute to not include. You will need some kind of little loom, though.
I've realized that these searches often inspire me to design something of my own that is different than what I have been able to find. Maybe a fun K1b coaster... who knows!
